Don't Be Scared of Face Oils

Posted by Neha Chokshi on

It’s scary isn’t it…the first time you put oil on your face? It was for me…for as long as I can remember, I associated breaking out, shiny face, and clogged pores with oil. In fact, even though I KNEW the fantastic benefits of face oil, even though I KNEW that it was going to help my skin, it took me over a week to finally try the fabulous face oil I had carefully formulated on my skin.

It sat on my counter, staring back at me every time I walked by, just daring me to try it. After a week of letting it taunt me, I put on my big girl panties and tried it.

OH. MY. GOODNESS.

I was in love. Seriously, in love. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been using this all along.  I had tried so many moisturizers over the years and none of them made my skin feel like this! And, no, it wasn’t greasy, my skin was not shiny, and I didn’t break out. In fact, my skin looked and felt healthier than ever and it was GLOWING. For real…it felt amazing.

My skin is very dry and also very oily (depending on what part of my face we’re talking about). It has always been hard for me to find a product that worked for me. The oil working for me was a HUGE surprise. The dry areas felt plump and moisturized; the oily areas felt moisturized and actually balanced, not at all greasy. Face oil surprised me…a LOT. And now I’m hooked.

There are so many fantastic reason you shouldn't be afraid to use face oils and why there are so good for your skin.

For one thing, many botanical oils (like argan) contain a lot of great antioxidants that offer free radical protection. Oils are lipophilic, which means fat loving. What does this mean for your skin? It means that the oils will absorb into your skin's lipid barrier very easily and keep your skin hydrated all day long. They also give you skin a naturally healthy, dewy look. Are you sold on face oils yet?
